I didn”””t pay too much attention to My Little Pony the first time around, because I was too busy with extra-manly guy stuff: headbanging to AC/DC, beating up the wussy guys in Auto Shop class, and collecting every single episode of ”””Home Improvement””? on VHS. But apparently My Little Pony was a pretty big deal at the time, and now the My Little Pony franchise is back in a big way. In fact, you can now buy Halloween-themed Ponies, which seems to defeat the purpose of this icky-sweet concept.
The main market for these demon beasts is less the original target audience of pre-adolescent girls than the burgeoning community of adult collectors, who probably dislike the macho, hetero vibe of collecting Barbies. In fact, there”””s an entire online community of My Little Pony freaks: collectors, fan art, YouTube contributors, and even a My Little Pony RPG, which makes the more traditional D&D crowd sound like the very definition of healthy and well adjusted. Not a day goes by without my learning something from Al Gore”””s internet tubes that I never, ever wanted to know about. You”””ll probably want something to cleanse your palate after all that syrupy My Little Pony goodness, so here”””s the Apocalypse Ponies from Adult Swim to show how the concept of Devil Ponies ought to be done.

Wizards of the Coast lied to me!? Dammit, I was ready to start rolling my 12-sided die all over Butterfly Island.
Okay, the press release was a joke. But even the Wizards people thought it sounded reasonable. Try this link:

And some people take the idea very seriously indeed, as you can see here:

(Sorry for the cumbersome links. Embedding links in the comments has been a little sketchy lately.)
