Give Nicole Kidman credit for conscientious prep work. The Katie Holmes 1.0 release is about to go to India on her first official tour as goodwill ambassador for the UN Development Fund for Women, and apparently she’s trying to get all the bile out of her system before the visit. Discussing her fellow goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie, Nicole said:
It’s not like Angelina is any better than a nurse working in a hospital but she’s getting the publicity for her contribution. I have a friend who is a doctor and every year he works in Africa for two months for no money. So everyone is on the same playing field, whether you offer your services as the doctor or Angelina does.
Precisely how this comment promotes goodwill is a little obscure. Although if it leads to a full-on catfight with Angelina trapping Nicole in a scissors hold it will cheer me up immensely, and I mean that in the crassest possible way. I’m putting my money on the Tomb Raider in that particular bout.

I’m not sure this is a real quote, because the source is kind of suspect and it sounds really over the top for Nicole. Plus it originates in the British press, which makes a lot of crap up wholesale.
Actually, it’s the Scottish press, but that’s not a distinction the Scots can feel real good about. I see your point, though. The tone of both the quote and the article was disturbingly subliterate, and I wouldn’t be completely surprised to hear that Nicole denied saying it.
