According to Oprah, these girls and their respective luxury surroundings will function as the catalyst to end AIDS in Africa. Or something like that.
Built on 21 hectares, the 28-building campus resembles a luxury hotel with state-of-the-art classrooms, computer and science laboratories, a library, a theatre and a wellness centre. Each girl has a two-bedroom suite.
Winfrey said she chose “every brick, tile, sheet and spoon” because “if you are surrounded by beautiful things and wonderful teachers who inspire you, that beauty brings out the beauty in you”. [sic }
Pardon my sheer ignorance, but wasn’t Paris Hilton surrounded by beautiful things and high-schooled by the best that New York high society could offer? The extravagances involved with this girls’ school seems a bit too elitist to accomplish anything more than resentment from the middle-class families whose incomes were too great to make the cut. Apparently, boys aren’t deserving of such an experience either.

Typical of that mindset – nothing is the responsibility of the person. It’s the tile’s fault.
Every time I hear her remark about how she knew early in life that she was “destined for greatness” or about how her show “is about changing lives/opinions/the world”, I just want to puke.

I don’t understand why everyone is complaining. She built a school for black girls in Africa. What’s wrong with that? She’s one of the few celebrities who are making a difference. If she were screwing Brad Pitt the reactions whould be completely different.
