One of the few noteworthy features of American Idol has been those occasional moments when Paula Abdul rouses herself to semiconsciousness long enough to babble about the moth who finds the melon, or some such nonsense. But Monday night at the Emmys, Paula outdid herself with one of the most spectacular displays of public drunkenness I”””ve seen without hearing ”””Bad boys Bad boys / Whatcha gonna do?””? on the soundtrack. The great thing here is Paula”””s utterly spurious, alcohol-fueled belief that she can fake sobriety well enough to make it through this interview without coming off like a complete fool. Thanks to E! Television”””s reporters, and Paula”””s own indomitable will, for keeping her on her feet and talking for two whole minutes. Well done, the three of you.
