Back in the Eighties, Kathleen Turner was a Hollywood icon, the star of movies like Peggy Sue Got Married, Romancing the Stone, and the groundbreaking Body Heat, among others. She hasn’t been heard from for a while, but now she’s got an autobiography coming out (Send Yourself Roses), and the girl is definitely making up for lost time. Early excerpts make it sound like the most entertainingly nasty Hollywood memoir since Julia Phillips’ You’ll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again. Specifically, Kathleen seems to have it in for just about every male actor she ever worked with. A few examples:
- Burt Reynolds: “Burt and I were sworn enemies. He later accused me of trying to get him sacked every day and publicly declared that the sound of my name made him want to vomit.”
- Anthony Perkins: “Before one scene, where my character had to go from abject misery to laughter in a matter of seconds, Anthony said to me ‘You won’t be able to do that without some of this,’ and tried to hand me his drugs. I said” ‘Oh yeah? Watch me, asshole.’”
- Nicholas Cage: “Oh, that stupid voice of his and the fake teeth! Honestly, I cringe to think about it. He caused so many problems. He was arrested twice for drunk-driving and, I think, once for stealing a dog. He’d come across a chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket.”
There are others. Come to think of it, Kathleen doesn’t sound all that crazy about many of the women she worked with. All in all, the book promises to be a potent reminder that chronic douchebaggery isn’t something that was invented by the current generation of Hollywood club kids.

She’s awesome. I love Beverly Sutphin.
She used ot be a major sexpot and I loved her in War of the Roses. When her voice went butch and her looks faded, I thought we’d never see her again and then, BOOM, she was Chandler’s dad on Friends. She actually made a role of the changes in her apperance in what seemed a rather self-deprecating humor.
I loved it.
War of the Roses and Prizzi’s Honor are two of my favorite movies. Kathleen always played tough broads in her movies, is it any surprise that she is one in Real Life? And it also sounds like she doesn’t suffer fools glady - a trait I admire. ;-P
I dunno, she always struck me as a complete bitch, and the description of her book is not doing much to dispel that feeling.
[...] Kathleen Turner is STILL big. It’s the romcoms that got small! (AgentBedhead) [...]
Kathleen has always come across as a pretty nice gal to me. He ex-husband even says so. They were married for 21 years and he seems to still be friends.

All my best,

Yeah, she sounds like a pain in the ass but I totally agree with her about Nicolas Cage. I can not stand him. I can’t even watch an otherwise decent movie with him in it. Skin crawling. Yuck.
