Last night, Pete Doherty completed the second of two sold out solo acoustic shows at the Hackney Empire that promised “very special guests.” Both shows passed without visible bloodletting or drug-related incidents, which resulted in “some critics lamenting the passing of his wilder excesses.” What a waster.
The second nightly gig saw the unlikely reunion of the two leading members of The Libertines. Carl Barat must be a forgiving soul, since he is the same bandmate whose flat was burglarized by Doherty, resulting in the latter’s newfound love for soap on a rope. At any rate, Pete strummed along spunkily for the first half of last night’s gig, and then proceeded to tease the audience:
You’ve been waiting for this moment. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Carlos Barat…only joking! What do you expect for 25 quid?
Doherty was then joined by Barat, who wore a Dior Homme suit and a fetching trilby hat. The dastardly duo played 13 songs, including “What A Waster,” “Death On The Stairs,” “Albion,” and “What Katie Did.” The two lovebirds embraced and whispered sweet nothings to each other between songs, and then Barat went a wee bit overboard by launching into a tapdance during their cover of “Dream A Little Dream.”
While the pair haven’t performed together since their 2004 fallout, Carl Barat’s spokesman emphasized that this was a one-night stand with no strings attached:
They just got together for the night. There are no plans for anything more than that.
Babyshambles are doing their own thing and Dirty Pretty Things are doing what they are doing.
Meanwhile, Kate Moss served as Pete’s primary “special guest” a few nights ago. As expected, the media is crapping itself with glee that Pete has once again publicly called Kate Moss his fiancee. Hell, they’ve only been engaged since last October, and she’s only sported a few engagement rings since that time. How fashionable.

Thus endeth the gift to all bulimics in the audience. You’re very welcome!
