Bloody hell. None of us can forget Pete Doherty’s exploding arm, which was caused by injecting too many drugs and then attempting to madly play the guitar. Well, the Daily Star never did connect those spots and now claims to have solved the nonexistent “mystery” from a sketchy Facebook update that read, “Pete Doherty was shot at yesterday’s gig.” WTF? It’s been several weeks since the injury, yet we’re supposed to believe some likely Facebook impersonator, who suddenly blames the exploding arm on a Paris-acquired gunshot wound?
Doherty performed his first gig since then last Wednesday, at the Jalouse bar in Dalston, London. But he was unable to use his arm to play the guitar and refused to explain what had happened.
An insider said: “There’s obviously something dodgy going on.
“But he won’t explain who shot him or why.”
Yeah, Pete Doherty’s arm got shot — by a fucking heroin needle — which did cause Peter to cancel several gigs. However, if “Peter” wants to claim to be wounded by gunshot, he should probably produce a witness or, at minimum, an actual gunshot wound.
Next up, for Roger Daltrey and Babyshambles, however, Doherty will get his shit together. So, as planned, Doherty pretended to be Pete Townshend for a one-off gig at Bristol’s O2 Academy. ‘Twas without much preparation:
[B]assist Drew McConnell said he wasn’t entirely confident the gig would be a success. “We did one rehearsal,” he said. “It could go tits up tonight. It could always go tits up with us, but tonight especially. If we play well, then brilliant. But if we fuck it up massively, then at least it’s gonna be a laugh! I think that would be fun to watch anyway.”
Wearing specs and a large scarf, The Who singer sang ten songs in total, backed for the most part by Babyshambles and Simon Townshend (Pete Townshend’s younger brother).
Before kicking into The Who classic ‘A Legal Matter’, Daltrey joked that the song was “an ironic choice”, considering Doherty’s near-constant battles with the authorities.
That’s an ace joke by Roger Daltrey, btw.
Doherty and Daltrey traded lead vocals throughout the set. During an impassioned version of “Magic Bus”, Doherty screamed Pete Townshend’s backing vocals, while “I Can’t Explain” saw the Babyshambles man sing Daltrey’s lead parts, with The Who singer backing him up.
After finishing the song, Daltrey performed “Behind Blue Eyes’, backed only by Townshend, while the rest of Babyshambles watched from the side of the stage.
As Daltrey then teased the audience by playing the opening chords to Johnny Cash’s “I Got Stripes”, an animated Doherty rushed onto the stage and played along on the drums.
It sounds like Our Antihero is recovering from that “gunshot wound” quite nicely. What a bloody trooper!
Below the cut is an MTV UK promo for its upcoming “24 Hours With Pete Doherty” fauxumentary, in which Doherty shall perform a cartwheel. Whee, mates!

Pete D. always looks surprised and like he just got done running. Drugs, perhaps? Nah, couldn’t be.
