This news certainly made the tabloids crap themselves with glee, but speaking as someone who doesn’t mind holding a different mindset than most tabloid journalists, this is awfully depressing. Despite giving one of his best musical performances at the 2007 MTV EMA awards, Pete Doherty has decided to fall off the wagon once again. Doherty had been clean for over two months, and, after six weeks of intensive detox and rehab, he was attending day sessions for his addictions:
“I really enjoy it and embrace the new way,” he said of his post-rehab lifestyle, but admitted: “I don’t know where it’s all going to end, to be honest.”
Then came the inevitable development when Doherty admitted that his chances of staying out of trouble for his 18-month probation are slim:
“After years of entrenched drug abuse you have a mourning period. I know it’s a bit sad, but I’m in mourning. I’m in mourning for an armful.”
The Sun has published graphic video footage of Pete injecting heroin. In the footage, Pete is aware that he is being filmed via camera phone. At least, he is aware until his head falls forward into familiar feelings of euphoria. These images, taken from the footage, were allegedly shot at Doherty’s Wiltshire country retreat in which he was attempting to avoid the ills of London. His former girlfriend, Irina Lazareanu, stated that she repeatedly fended off the advances of Doherty’s former drug dealers when they tracked him down to his new home.
I guess we can see how that struggle ended.
