The major downside to kicking heroin and crack cocaine is that one tends to start gaining weight in part due to the body’s shock of actually ingesting regular meals. In another regard, an addict tends to trade one addiction for another, and Pete Doherty has become addicted to food and admits he’s horrified at his weight gain over the past few months. Doughy Doherty told Contact Music of his woes:

“Stopping drugs affects your weight. I’m hungry all the time and I mean hungry. I am on the SlimFast diet now - that’s my new addiction. Plus I’m chomping down all this health food but I’m still getting bigger. What can I do?”

He could always do what unfortunate ruffian folk do to keep the weight off - exercise regularly.

Pete also visited court again the other day and was fined £750 for assaulting a BBC reporter in March. Even though he apologized, Pete did refer to the reporter as a member of “harassing scrum press.” Magistrate Helen Skinner was not impressed at the hypocritical nature of Doherty’s statement:

“Referring to the press as scum does no one any favours. You were obviously courting publicity judging by your somewhat extravagant behaviour outside the court.”
