The Daily Shite Mail has been making a huge ruckus over Pete Doherty’s weight gain over the past six weeks or so since he quit heroin.

Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty appears to have swapped one addiction for another.

The reformed drug addict looked positively tubby as he emerged from a north London pub after meeting up with his bandmates.

What utter assholes to practically encourage the guy to get back on drugs. That’s what essentially happened last November when Doherty similarly expressed his frustration:

“Stopping drugs affects your weight. I’m hungry all the time and I mean hungry. I am on the SlimFast diet now – that’s my new addiction. Plus I’m chomping down all this health food but I’m still getting bigger. What can I do?”

This probably isn’t so much a case of a “new addiction” as it is a case of metabolic shock. A good reason exists for a waifish physique being described as “heroin chic.” Heroin addicts lose their appetites and don’t generally eat much food at all. I think that I’ve seen only one or two photos of Pete Doherty chomping on a bagel in the past few years, and admittedly, I’ve viewed a lot of Pete Doherty photos. So chill out, mates.

The Daily Mail also posts this photo as evidence of Doherty’s so-called engagement to Irina Lazareanu:

Uh, since when did men take up the practice of wearing engagement rings? C’mon, tabloids, you’re gonna have to work much harder than that.
