Pete Doherty has been offered a role in a celebrity drug addiction reality show by the producers of the always classy Big Brother. The show will aim to chronicle a group of rock star addicts around the clock as they go through the dry heaves and beat the living crap out of each other. According to the producers, the premise is outstanding:
It’s going to be like Spinal Tap meets The Priory. The plan is to put a group of well-known faces with very public drug problems into a rehab and just let the cameras run.
It will be touted as a serious social experiment. But [the producers] are using drug problems as entertainment and treating addiction like a joke.
In addition to wooing Doherty as the token heroin junkie, the producers have also contacted musician Donny Tourette, a cocaine addict, and singer Dominic Masters, whose drug of choice just happens to be crack. How convenient.
None of these celebrity drug addicts have officially signed on as of yet, but eventually, some of them will be desperate enough to do so. Although only UK audiences will be able to catch this crap live, certainly the episodes will end up online at some point, and I will be downloading those puppies like crack is going out of style.
