Pete Doherty vs. Axl Rose: Who’s The Bigger Screwup?

Axl Rose and Pete Doherty

In a battle of the two most unreliable rock star frontmen, some amusing undercurrents are speculating upon whether Axl Rose and his enduring teleprompter or Pete Doherty will fail to show up for the upcoming Leeds and Reading festivals. In fact, betting odds are now available as to which of them will flake out and not show for their scheduled performances:

Festival goers could have a flutter with one bookmakers on a range of topics prior to heading to Leeds or Reading this weekend.

The twin festivals kick off on Friday (August 27th) with notorious bands such as Guns N’ Roses on the line-up.

They are joined by the likes of the Libertines, with William Hill suggesting organisers have “taken a bit of a gamble” on such groups.
Odds of 2/1 are available with the bookmakers for Guns N’ Roses to pull out of the shows, while it is 7/1 that they perform in both Berkshire and West Yorkshire.

“Reading and Leeds are famed for trying to attract edgier acts than V or Glastonbury, but unfortunately, these acts are generally more temperamental and thus, more unreliable,” explains spokesman Joe Crilly.

Other bets that may take the fancy of online gamblers include the 25/1 available on Pete Doherty being arrested at both events, or 7/1 that he has a brush with the law at one.

Look, I know that Pete Doherty failed to get his shit together on many prior concert occasions, perhaps most notably by OD’ing on a tour bus while an angry crowd rioted, but at least he can blame his drug addictions for his total lack of responsibility. Axl is just a diva and has never been dependable; further, it seems that he’s still up to his old tricks by taking to the stage over three hours late as recently as this year. Then, Axl blamed a “hacker” for the cancellation of all future G’N'R shows, but let’s not fool ourselves — he did it himself, but someone probably talked sense into him by revealing how much money he’d owe festival organizers by pulling out. So, I think Pete will surface for the Libertines’ horror show (else Carl Barat will kick his ass), and Axl will begrudgingly hop onstage as well. That is, Axl will perform until someone heckles him and the diva and his temper cut the show mercilessly short. Good times, mates.

Back in the day when MTV still played music, new songs were released there before they were released on the radio.

I still remember precisely how I felt the first time I heard/saw Welcome to the Jungle. They absolutely blew me away. At a time when bands like Duran Duran and hair-bands were the standard of success, they were like nothing anyone had heard in a very long time. The bar had been raised and I knew then that they were something special.

All these years later I still can’t believe that they could fuck it up so royally.

Still, even today, should the real Guns N Roses ever tour, they would pack the place out.

How dare you compare them to Pete Friggin Doherty.

Have you no shame?!

Pete Friggin Doherty!

Now, I used to have the most massive crush on Axl in high school. But I never could understand why he’d make crowds wait for 2-3 hours before he’d go onstage. I mean, he was just sitting in his dressing room trying to get in the zone or something? And this was a regular occurrence. I’m thinking that the guy really hates doing live shows. And a teleprompter for lyrics that he wrote? Oh, Axl.

I once saw Axl in an african head dress. No joke.

I see Axl Rose and his new band got bottled off stage at Dublin – those pesky music-lovers get all over the place LOL!
