Charlize Theron seems like a nice enough person. She’s made some decent films, and she rarely makes a fool of herself in public. Geography, however, would appear not to be her fort. Listen to her description of a trip to–oh, someplace or other. She seems a little unclear on where they went:
We went to Turkey. When we got over there, we rented a car and we drove all the way to Budapest. By the time we got to Budapest it was like the Cannes Film Festival, I’d never seen anything like it.
The thing that was like the Cannes Film Festival was the Istanbul Film Festival, which is traditionally held in Istanbul. And traditionally Istanbul and Budapest can be found in different countries. None of which prevented Ms. Theron from visiting a bazaar and picking up a Turkish carpet while she was in “Budapest.”
Right now Charlize is at Sundance, promoting her latest film. We hope she enjoys the fine skiing and other winter activities at our little Alpine resort. With any luck she might find time for one of the llama-back excursions that are a must for any visitor to South America.

Maybe I’m reading it differently or still in a food coma from lunch, but her statements don’t sound out of whack. “It was like” doesn’t mean it was…although since I’m sure she’s been to Cannes then she has seen something like it.
And picking up a Turkish carpet while in Budapest? Not like I haven’t seen Turkish carpets stateside. Hell, I had Chinese food for lunch but I’m not anywhere near China.
Doesn’t mean she isn’t a ditz, but I don’t see it from the quotes.
Nothing wrong with the “it was like Cannes” comment, ken, but she was definitely talking about the Istanbul Film Festival. She called the city “Budapest” three times, and she never went anywhere near Hungary.
I think she was being a ditz here, but it’s nothing serious. Charlize is a more responsible and talented person than our usual gossip fodder.
I’d cut her some slack if she had not stated that the US rivals Cuba in lack of freedom. Just sayin.
