It took years for George Lucas to destroy the lingering affection most of us felt for the Star Wars universe, and since 2005 he’s been more or less resting on his laurels. But now he’s recharged his batteries, and he’s ready to spring into action. Right now he’s wrapping up Red Tails, a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen. (Lucas wrote the script and is executive producer.) How about some CGI fairies?
Not much is currently known about the plot past the fact that it will somehow involve fairies. As George Lucas frequently produces much of his own material, it is likely the screenplay is based on an idea by Lucas; however, this is not yet confirmed.
Two of the few facts known about this top secret project are that it will be directed by Kevin Munroe (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) from a script by Daniel Berenbaum (Elf). On the downside, these guys were involved with TMNT and Elf. On the upside, they’re not actually George Lucas, so it’s possible this project won’t do for fairies what Lucas did for Star Wars or Twilight did for vampires — i.e., drive a stake through their adorable little hearts as a legitimate screen topic. One way or another, it looks like we’re going to find out.

C’mon, I liked Elf.
Cute movie, great soundtrack.
There’s already a perfectly serviceable movie about The Tuskeegee Airmen:

And while I’m all in favor of telling their remarkable story over again, I can’t help but suspect it’ll only suffer from this idiot’s involvement.
Agreed, apotheosis. Saw the first one, liked it a lot. I’m not sure what Lucas brings to this project that will make it better.
And jvon, I might have been unfair to “Elf” because of my intense dislike for Will Farrell. Of course, lots of people who weren’t me thought “Anchorman” was pretty damn funny, so YMMV.
