Just about everyone (except perhaps his ex-wife) adores Bill Murray, so how cool would it be to actually sit next to the guy on an airplane? Well, on a recent flight from L.A. to N.Y.C., someone got that lucky and, miraculously, was still able to form coherent sentences in order to tell the tale:

Bill, who goes by “William” on planes, was entertaining as always, rocking an Indiana Jones style hat, leather vest and the crutches he’s been sporting since a skiing fall at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

He boarded at the last minute and got comfy right away so his leg wouldn’t bother him. He was wrapped up in a big quilt and settled into his pillow while he chatted with passengers. He joked about the next possible installation of the “Ghostbusters” franchise when a fan asked him about it, and he made friends right away with the crew.

The occasional party guy tamed his ways for the nearly six hour flight, sipping a water and avoiding the free booze. Bill slept for most of the overnight flight with his injured leg raised up.

After the plane landed at JFK airport in New York, Bill speedily hobbled through the terminal with his crutches, passengers sidling up to ask how he was maneuvering so well. In baggage claim, Bill settled onto a bench and patiently waited for his bags. He never once acted like a superstar, or like he was annoyed at having to talk to so many people at 6 am in the morning.

The only way this story could have been better is if Murray had departed the baggage claim area with a “[N]o one will ever believe you.” Damn, I love Bill Murray.
