Rumor and Supposition

By Chrissy in Ninth Circle

Let’s play the hypothetical game, shall we?

Assume for purposes of this discussion that I just received a phone call from someone on the homeowner’s association for my neighborhood and this is what I was told:

Owner of Lot 21 had a closing yesterday to sell his lot to Buyer.

Buyer appeared at closing and informed Owner of Lot 21 he was not going to go through with the purchase because the Wife of Lot 22 informed him and his wife that their two young children were in danger because her husband (co-owner of Lot 22) is a sexual predator.

The ramifications of slander aside, as well as the possible suit for breach of contract, etc., I own Lot 27 and have young daughters aged four and twelve.

I am unable to access the sexual offender site to verify the veracity of the allegation from work at the moment.

I am so not a happy camper.

Keep trying to access the site!! and I’m with Sadie, keep those girls inside. Better yet, keep them on a lease, that way they never leave your sight!

I’m wondering, as well, if the wife just didn’t want the children to build next door with those children; however, that’s a helluva thing to allege about your own damn husband.

I’m sick, just sick about this.

better yet, if he’s a sexual predator why in hell is she still married to him?

keep trying to check. there are a bunch of sites now, so one of them should be working.

No matter how you slice it, something’s REALLY wrong.

Please keep us posted, yes?

Something just doesn’t seem right about that story. First of all, why is the home owner’s assc. telling you this? Are they warning everyone? Have they checked out the facts before alerting everyone? Also, how did the conversation come up between the wife of predator and potential buyer? That seems like an odd coversation to have with someone you don’t know.

It seems to me there may be other motives here. Either a “good” excuse to get out of a contract or “wife of predator” was trying to scuttle the sale for some reason.

I know this is a serious issue because you have children, but try not to be too upset about it until you know the facts for sure. It seems like there are too many variables in this story to be too frightened just yet. Good luck. I hope there is a positive outcome to this situation.

Hey All!

One of my good friends is on the board and wanted to give me a head’s up because of my girls. She just wanted me to be aware and investigate on my own, as well as keep an extra careful eye on the girls.

I’ll keep everyone posted.

Thanks!

yikes! keep those girls inside, or insight.

I’m with dogsdontpurr on this one.

It’s very easy to jump to conclusions, but something doesn’t sound right here. Like why hasn’t she told anyone else until now? Be cautious until the facts are known.

I really hope she’s making it up, although that doesn’t say much about her character..

UPDATE:

I appreciate the advice and concern everyone!

The guy is not a registered sex offender.

One of the other neighbors talked to them and the wife did say she said it, but claimed she was just joking…

Weirdos!

You know, the seller of that real estate could sue her for compensatory damages. Wouldn’t that be an absolute shame?

On the other hand, it’s still very good news for you and the girls!

phew! what a relief!

Yep, I am thinking “intentional interference with contract!”

Late to the party…again.

All I can say is, her joke – wasn’t funny. Not to the husband, the potential new neighbors, the soon to be ex-neighbors, or the rest of the neighborhood.

However, I’m sure she’ll get what she’s got coming.

Aren’t the local authorities also supposed to keep tabs on Sex Offenders? I know I’d rather call the local sheriff than walk up to the door of some house and ask the guy or his wife.

Holy Guacamole!

I can’t add much to the child-endangerment aspect (as it’s already been comented on, and found to not be true).

This is just general comment, don’t take this as advice (sorry, need to do the standard disclaimer) BUT

The Seller can sue Buyer for breach of contract, and to complete the sale. He may ALSO be able to sue Neighbor for interferance with the contract. Personally, I’d do both, or at least investigate the hell out of doing both. It all depends on the local laws.
