Russell Brand v. Jon Bon Jovi (Re: Pete Doherty)

Russell Brand Jon Bon Jovi Pete Doherty

Bloody hell, mates. You just never know when the topic of Pete Doherty’s gonna come up. As if to prove my point, comedian (and roving hairpiece) Russell Brand has namedropped our antihero’s old band, The Libertines. In a grand gesture of goodwill, Russell proclaims that “Can’t Stand Me Now” is the greatest track of the past decade:

I like it because of the romance of The Libertines as a group. This song is like the zenith and nadir of their relationship. It’s perhaps their best creative achievement and also a beautiful hymn to the demise of their friendship.

Hey, when Russell speaks about something other than drugs or sex, he actually comes off as rather intelligent. This is quite unlike the vibe coming from the egomaniacal Jon Bon Jovi in an interview with The Guardian. Among other things, Jon claims that being from New Jersey gave him a working class ethic that makes his band, well, better than everyone else:

We didn’t have the LA style-over-substance thing, or the big-city glamour that you get caught up in, where you’re caught up in press stories about who’s scoring the best drugs in town. A lot of the media love to report on the best gossip stories, but you won’t get that from my band. Either we didn’t do it or we didn’t tell anyone! That kid from Babyshambles, I’ve never, ever heard of him. People say, “Isn’t he great? He’s such a rock star?” But that’s all people know about him, that he’s a great rock star.

Well, there’s several factual errors here. First, Babyshambles isn’t an LA band. Second, Jon must have forgotten about how Richie Sambora made out with Denise Richards on a damn balcony in front of paparazzi. Third, Jersey Sucksbecause it does.
