Over the weekend, Canadian actor Ryan Gosling was unceremoniously dumped from director Peter Jackson’s current project, a movie adaptation of Alice Sebold’s wildly popular novel The Lovely Bones. “Creative differences” were cited as the reason for Gosling’s departure, but the main problem seems to be that he’d created a bit too much Ryan Gosling:
Peter Jackson was said to be quite surprised that Gosling had showed up to start work on “The Lovely Bones” looking like he’d donned a fat suit. According to sources, the 26-year-old Gosling had apparently told the director he was going to gain weight to age himself up to play the part of a grieving father, but Jackson was still expecting some movie star allure–not paunch and a beard.
Gosling’s replacement is Mark Wahlberg, who’s ten years older than Gosling. The role will be quite a change of pace from his more usual tough-guy roles, but Wahlberg has shown some range in the past. Actually, the guy’s entire career, from New Kids on the Block to underwear model to serious actor, has followed one of the odder career arcs in entertainment. At any rate, for the next few months Wahlberg will be working out in front of the cameras while Gosling, hopefully, will be working out in the gym.
