Ryan Gosling Is Neither Lovely nor Bony

Over the weekend, Canadian actor Ryan Gosling was unceremoniously dumped from director Peter Jackson’s current project, a movie adaptation of Alice Sebold’s wildly popular novel The Lovely Bones. “Creative differences” were cited as the reason for Gosling’s departure, but the main problem seems to be that he’d created a bit too much Ryan Gosling:

Peter Jackson was said to be quite surprised that Gosling had showed up to start work on “The Lovely Bones” looking like he’d donned a fat suit. According to sources, the 26-year-old Gosling had apparently told the director he was going to gain weight to age himself up to play the part of a grieving father, but Jackson was still expecting some movie star allure–not paunch and a beard.

Gosling’s replacement is Mark Wahlberg, who’s ten years older than Gosling. The role will be quite a change of pace from his more usual tough-guy roles, but Wahlberg has shown some range in the past. Actually, the guy’s entire career, from New Kids on the Block to underwear model to serious actor, has followed one of the odder career arcs in entertainment. At any rate, for the next few months Wahlberg will be working out in front of the cameras while Gosling, hopefully, will be working out in the gym.

Ouch. That’s gotta suck. Especially if it really was deliberate.

I also have to ask: who is Peter Jackson to talk about someone being fat and hairy?

Nonono… Donny Wahlberg was in NKOTB. Mark Walhberg had a solo career as a non-threatening hip-hop artist known by the moniker “Marky Mark” of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, best known for their single “Good Vibrations.”

*Hides face*

I fear I’ve said too much.

Thanks, salty. You saved me from embarassing myself.

You know, I was actually around at the time and I still thought Mark and Donny were one and the same. Obviously I wasn’t paying very close attention.

Actually, if you want to be technical about it, Mark Wahlberg was an original member of NKOTB — he quit because he didn’t like their bubble gum image, and made way for Joe McIntyre.

What can I say? I dated a lot of NKOTB fans in high school.

Hey, man. I’m ashamed to admit that the ONLY reason that I’m familiar with Ryan Gosling is from his old USA show — “Breaker High” — basically, it was “Saved By The Bell” on a cruise ship.

Just terrible. I watched it every damn weekend though.

It’s come to my attention that Peter Jackson may no longer be a fat hairy disgusting bastard, so I must retract my earlier barb. He has supposedly lost weight. Maybe people were confusing him with Michael Moore.

It’s okay, AB. Not only did I recognize Ryan Gosling from Breaker High (-and- Young Hercules), but the guy on Reaper as “the fat one from Breaker High.”. And I can still pick out cast members of Are You Afraid of the Dark.

Ah, Canadian TV.

This is what I cannot stand, someone trying to be devoted to a film and getting canned for it. Lindsay Lohan shows up “exhausted” but she doesn’t get kicked from the project! Not to mention, it sounds like Ryan shouldn’t even have been picked for the part, normally he doesn’t look like a father of a seventeen year old. He doesn’t always look like he’s old enough to be the father of a seven year old!

Mark wasn’t in NKOTB (his bro was though) but he did have a solo album with that “Good Vibrations” song. Which was pretty bad, so I can see why you got confused. Also, why would Ryan get picked for a part that he’s too young for? He looks better without the beard or the paunch!
