Well, James Cameron ought to be awfully proud of himself. Thanks to the commercial success of Avatar, the already annoying CGI trend has grown quite ridiculous of late. As if to prove my point, Slashfilm has claimed insider information that Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern costume “will be mostly CGI.” In other words, those won’t really be RR’s abs, which shall be woefully encased within “a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights” so that the CGI can work its post-production magic:
The suit is lined with white LEDs, which I initially thought might be used to give a practical glow (kind of like how Billy Crudup wore blue LEDs to give the actors around Dr. Manhattan a blue glow in Watchmen), but I’ve since been told might just be for mo-cap tracking purposes.
Hmmm. On second thought, perhaps the Dr. Manhattan-like glow ain’t such a bad idea. Ryan Reynolds would look awfully fetching with a glowing green wang. Oh, and there’s even more lack of respect for RR’s abs in this new poster for Reynolds’ upcoming Paperman:
