Screw Hunter S. Thompson

By Bedhead in Pop Culture Mix

More glorification of celebrity suicide:

Rolling Stone is set to publish the suicide note of Hunter S. Thompson:

No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun — for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax — This won’t hurt.

Gee, that’s one mighty prolific note. He apparently left the note to his wife, Anita, presumably to explain precisely why he shot himself during a phone conversation with her. What a coward.

“No More Fun. . . . No fun.” Not that one should ever have expected anything like adult responsibility from the likes of HST. What a self-centered fool.

Personally, I’m all in favor of celebrity suicide. And he was getting bitchy and whiny and no fun for anyone at all. He is also, as you said, a coward. When I first heard the news, I was kinda sad. I liked his old writings. But then I heard the bit about him being on the phone with his wife when he committed suicide….total loss of respect.

Why so grumpy and mean, people? Public suicide is a sign of mental illness, and it’s always sad to me when someone, famous or not, is successful. He was obviously hurting and personally disturbed at the end. How about a little compassion, in general? Do you think his wife is as disrespectful of him as all of you, or that she would appreciate it? What gives you the right? My apologies for sounding indignant, but you’ve surprised me this time, Sadie.

The cults that grow around celebrity suicides and the coolness that infers upon the act is – in the 21st century – boring. This was cool once, like “oh look who is on heroin – gosh, he did all that on heroin….” Now it is all just a dull crock. Thompson was a boob. And the Minister of Propaganda is a Packer fan. What else need be said?

Hmm, Der Minister of Propaganda appears to be a fretful, hand-wringing bore. Let me guess–a woman.

Zing! While the other men of Naked Villainy have referred to him as ‘Fabienne’ in passing, I do remain convinced that despite his *ahem* sensitive views, he is in fact male.

Pictorial evidence, you see…. This might be a side effect of living in Hollywood.
