Yet another story posted yesterday that’s moving a lot faster than it has any right to move: About two days after reports surfaced that they were dating, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has asked model-singer Carla Bruni to marry him. The official announcement is likely to follow an “intimate party” this weekend when the couple will celebrate Bruni’s fortieth birthday.
Not to be cynical, but this doesn’t sound like it has much of a shelf life. Sarko is conservative (in the French sense of the term, which puts him somewhere to the left of John Edwards), while Bruni has described herself as a leftist and said that if she were French, she would have voted for Sarkozy’s Socialist opponent. She’s also spoken out publicly against his policies on immigration and other issues. Sarko is already the first French president to get divorced in office; before his five-year term is out, he might be the first to get divorced twice.

for all of his political bravery, looks like Sarkozy hasn’t learned squat about romance. Kids, can we say “rebound?’
It is kind of striking how much Carla looks like Sarko’s ex. The man seems to have a definite type. Or, as I believe the French would say, “type.”
She looks remarkably like a brunette Bo Derek in that pic.
Oh.
Wrong era.
Geez I’m old.
If being President (even in France) doesn’t entitle a single guy to bang the hell out of supermodels, I cannot imagine what would. If he has to get “engaged” to her first for this to be politically acceptable, that’s fine with me.
Go Sarko!
If you gotta rebound, do it with a supermodel.
