Bloody hell, mates. We’ve seen Peter Doherty taking a bath (twice, actually) and, at one point, even brushing his teeth. However, it looks like the wastrel has since forgotten to scrub up for his fans, not that they minded much at all. Doherty, yellow-stained teeth and all, played solo for a sold-out crowd at Hackney Empire. As an acknowledgment of the recently announced split of Dirty Pretty Things, Peter made a special dedication of a Libertines B-side to former bandmate Carl Barat. Awwww.

Things didn’t stay so rosy for long. Upon invitation from Doherty, hundreds of his rabid devotees even rushed the stage towards the end of the show. The reaction to this “stage invasion” was mixed, however. While a photographer reportedly called the scene one of the “scariest I’ve ever been in,” another attendee felt “cheated” and called most of the show “absolutely terrible” before adding, “[W]ell it says it all that he had to instruct his audience to do something which should be so spontaneous.” Shockingly, the worst condemnation of Peter’s performance came from one of his own (alleged) fans: “Hero worship is a dangerous thing especially when your idols a prick.”

Not much to say on that one. He may be a junkie, but he’s our junkie, mates.
