The end of a franchise is a sad time for many, but it also frees actors up for new opportunities. Since Kiefer Sutherland’s “24″ shall soon end, and Kirsten Dunst has similarly been freed from her Mary Jane shoes in the Spider-Man franchise (and has seen the end of her Japanese Schoolgirl days), the two have decided to get back to some real actressin.’ Hence their acceptance of roles in Lars von Trier’s Melancholia, which (at least from the title) sounds like the “theraputic” film that Antichrist was intended to be. However, if Nikki Finke’s scoop is accurate (and it very nearly always is), von Trier shall make this a “sci-fi disaster film,” which makes this uncharted territory for all three parties. Well, as long as Kirsten doesn’t bolt a naked Kiefer to a boulder and administer a quick-and-dirty castration before making him ejaculate blood and giving herself an emergency clitorectomy, this Melancholia holds some promise. Fingers crossed, mates.
