Since there’s nothing in particular going on in places like Libya or Japan, the world has felt free to obsess over Suri Cruise’s questionable choice of things to shove in her mouth. This morning Katie Holmes appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, partly to promote her new miniseries, but mostly (I think) to deal with the blazing Penis Gummies controversy. (Okay, the episode was taped this morning and will air Friday. What am I, a rocket surgeon?) According to Katie, the whole incident was just an innocuous mix-up that happened on a trip to an ice cream parlor called Serendipity:
They are called p-e-n-i-s gummies and they look like it…. She was holding the box and I was like ‘okay, wow we don’t need that right now.’ Because I thought if I said put that back and then she’s going to say, what is this? And I really didn’t want to have that conversation…. And then it was on the cover of a magazine that I’m giving her those gummies.”
It might be asked why a kid-friendly place like Serendipity even stocks Penis Gummies, which seems a bit like Chuck E. Cheese handing out complimentary condoms. But Katie gets a pass on this one. Incidentally, she was quite clear that she didn’t actually buy the things. There is only room for one gummy penis in the Tom Cruise household.
