Don’t get me wrong: The King’s Speech is a terrific film. It’s an intelligent, inspiring, character-driven drama, and unlike many box office successes it doesn’t look like Michael Bay’s dreams after he overindulged in spicy Thai food. A worthy Oscar contender, no doubt about it. Which is why it’s a little depressing (read: a cheap, childish laugh) to learn this thoughtful, uplifting drama shared the same set with a gay pr0n film. Adult film director Jonno confirmed that he shot Snookered (a specialty production for the website UK Naked Men) at 33 Portland Place, the same set where Tom Hooper began filming slightly over a year later. The link includes a (heavily cropped) still from Snookered that makes it obvious the allegation is true.

So The King’s Speech has acquired a mildly embarrassing buzz on its way to the Oscars, and Snookered now has a truly unique cachet in the annals of gay pr0n. Then again, Amy Winehouse shot the video for “Rehab” at the same set before Jonno and his boys worked there, and 33 Portland Place probably never succeeded in cleaning that mess up. Let’s make that The King’s Long, Firm, Throbbing, Highly Infectious Speech.
