You can argue the relative merits of the US and the UK on various cultural fronts: cuisine, music, violent illiterate thugs, you name it. But Season 9 of Big Brother US is getting ready to deliver the Ultimate Smackdown of skanktastic reality TV to our friends across the pond. Natalie’s “one-woman whore circus,” full of public lactation and lost-tampon stories (you’ll never guess where she found it!), certainly marks some kind of weirdly inverted high point. But this season’s winner has to be Adam Jasinski’s Pat Healy imitation, calling autistic children “retards” and adding, “Disabled kids… I can call them whatever I want, OK?… I bust my ass to help these special-needs children!” (You can watch the clip here.)
Now in a moment of sweet, sweet, reality TV revenge, Jasinski has been fired by the United Autism Foundation, for whichget thishe’d been doing public relations work. And because Big Brother contestants are completely isolated, Jasinski won’t find out for several weeks that he’s been fired for being an utter jackass. That’s just icing on the cake, of course. Actually, Jasinski might want to consider a complete career change. He probably doesn’t have much of a future in public relations, but the man is well on the way to becoming a reality TV legend.
