The Moss Murderers: A New Low For Pop Art

The Moors Murderers Digital Art

Kate Moss and Pete Doherty depicted as murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady

The well-known visages of Kate Moss and her ex-boyfriend, Pete Doherty, have been super-imposed (read: Photoshopped) upon the original mugshots of convicted child killers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady. These convicted child murderers committed a series of killings known as “The Moors Murders” from 1963-65

The artist, Russell Young, has “created” this work “as a commentary on the hedonism of celebrities.” The superimposed images were “then printed on canvases with alternate gold and silver sheens.” Young describes this work as the “ultimate picture, the perfect storm, a perfect combination of fame and shame.” It’s almost as if destroying one’s own body through drug use is comparable to living life as brutal serial killers. How provocative!

Myra’s brother in law, David Smith, spoke of witnessing one of the couple’s acts of murder during this report at the Hyde Police Station:

Smith heard a long, loud scream. Myra yelled to him from the living room. When he first entered the room, he saw Ian Brady holding what David initially thought was a life-size rag doll. As it fell against the couch, not more than two feet away from him, the realisation dawned upon him that it was a young man and not a doll at all. As the young man lay sprawled, face down on the floor, Ian stood over him, his legs apart, holding an axe in his right hand.

The young man groaned. Ian lifted the axe into the air, and brought it down upon the man’s head. There was silence for a couple of seconds, and then the man groaned again, only it was much lower this time. Lifting the axe high above his head, Ian brought it down a second time. The man stopped groaning. The only sound he made was a gurgling noise.

Ian then placed a cover over the youth’s head and wrapped a piece of electric wire around his neck. As he repeatedly pulled on the wire, Ian kept saying [sic] “You fucking dirty bastard,” over and over again. When the man finally stopped making any noise, Ian looked up and said to Myra, “That’s it, it’s the messiest yet.”

Russell Young has capitalized on the murders of several young teenagers by pocketing a neat $56,000 for this work of “digital art.” Enjoy your blood money, you prick.
