This bit of passive-aggressive news is right up there with Vanilla Ice claiming that he’s for “sorry” for everything, meaning the atrocity that is “Ice Ice Baby.” Now even though that song still plays annually for kiddie dance recitals, there’s still only so much collective contempt that one can pin onto just one hit song. In sharp contrast, Phil Collins has reflected upon his work (as a solo artist and singer/drummer of Genesis) and decided to issue a much awaited apology for his musical success:
Collins’s career has brought him 13 hit singles, seven Grammys, and even an Academy Award for his work on the Disney musical movie Tarzan, winning in 1999 for best original song. “I’m sorry that it was all so successful. I honestly didn’t mean it to happen like that. It’s hardly surprising that people grew to hate me,” he said. Critics – and their harsh words – have emerged louder than the guitars of the modern rock era. Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher famously cut down the drummer in past years, quoted as saying, “You don’t have to be great to be successful. Look at Phil Collins.”
That, my friends, is the most intelligent that to ever come out of Noel Gallagher’s mouth. Now, let’s continue the trend of playing crappy 80s music at Agent Bedhead. Here’s “Invisible Touch” by Genesis, and man, I hated this crap:
