Lindsay Lohan is vaguely like Amy Winehouse, in the sense that they’re both undeniably talented but spectacularly incapable of behaving like professionals, or even normal grown-ups. Despite her obvious unemployability, Lindsay somehow convinced the Italian fashion label Fornarina to hire her as the face of their 2009 ad campaign. This makes sense only if your target audience is high-end clotheshorses with no access to the internet. The alternative would be marketing to people who want to be like Lindsay Lohan, and people like that are lucky if they can afford to shop at Fashion Bug.
At any rate, Fornarina has shown a truly majestic refusal to admit their mistake. They’re keeping Lindsay on for their fall/winter 2010 ad campaign, and this time they’re really thinking outside the box. Instead of associating their brand with Lindsay’s long, long list of unpleasant character traits, they’ve decided to make her look as little like Lindsay Lohan as possible. Paying her no doubt exorbitant fee and then disguising her like this seems a little counterintuitive to me, but high fashion has rarely been constrained by logic or common sense.
