That script that I mentioned was for Alice Underground, which I should have linked up details for, but we were in the middle of a tornado watch, and I dropped the ball.

From a NY Post Article in part:

Friends said Duncan had once been beaming in confidence because her “Alice” script was generating hot Hollywood buzz.

The story would have been about two New York prep-school girls who kidnap a rock star, after he told them he wanted to leave the Church of Scientology and they offered help.

The selling point of Duncan’s project was having the movie’s protagonist played by real-life Scientologist rocker Beck, according to the doomed artist.

Beck said he was only casual friends with Duncan and Blake, and certainly had no intentions of leaving the Church of Scientology.

“That’s ridiculous. Totally false,” Beck told the mag about his alleged agreement to work on “Alice.”

“Had we been closer and discussed anything as personal as religion, I would have only had positive things to say about Scientology.”

Beck, 37, admitted he and Blake had a business relationship in 2002 when the ill-fated artist helped design the album cover on “Sea Change.”

Well, if it counts I may STILL be doing shots at daybreak…

I found the portrait in Vanity Fair to be generally sympathetic, and it focused largely on their life in NYC after leaving LA. I have no doubt they were hounded by Scientologists: my own site has been astroturfed by them (until I started posting the IPs of all commenters…funny how many pro-Scientology posts came from the same IP). I didn’t realize, though, that their script was critical of Scientology; that wasn’t in any of the coverage I’ve read.

I’ve lived their life to a certain extent, always waiting for something or someone to come through, and it doesn’t make for an even temper and a sunny outlook in anyone of artistic sensibilities and independent bent. But no-one deserves to die and the world we live in is smaller for the absence of Jeremy Blake and Theresa Duncan.

Which of course should read “it;s hard to believe Scientologists aren’t involved” but it’s 6 in the morning and I’m for everything evil and wrong.

It’s hard not to believe Scientologists aren’t involved. When you are “in”, the rationale is that what you’re doing is the only answer and if you’re against us you’re for everything that is evil and wrong.

It really needs to be burned to the ground and have salt poured on the ashes.
