Last night, Iggy Pop’s proto-punk outfit, The Stooges, were finally inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after making it through three nominations and two rejections. The ceremony took place at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria hotel, where along with ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, Genesis, and Hollies were also honoured.
When Iggy hopped onstage, he must have felt compelled — by both the spirits of punk rock and the late Ron Asheton — to deliver what some would consider a rude gesture. Still, Iggy couldn’t possibly surpass the tastelessness of this moment from the 2008 ceremony.
Koo-koo-ka-choo.
