So, while I can understand the larger-than-life premise involved with the fashion platter of Sex and the City: The Movie (annoying flash site), the Carrie-Bradshaw-is-everywoman phenomenon still baffles me.

Just a theory, but: maybe women find the idea appealing that they could have a face like a horse, dress like a retarded hooker, act like a superficial slut, and men would still chase after them.
Come to think of it, men probably would. But it gets good ratings.
I am far more enthralled with her personally than with her character. I’ve never seen her in an interview where she was completely endearing; sweet, funny, humble. She just seems like a really great gal who is still very much in love with her husband.
As for the movie, I wonder how well it will do. We are now a few years removed from the SATC hullabaloo.
The wardrobe used in the television series was bad enough, now it seems they’re just going out of their way to ‘push the limits’. It’s annoying as hell, the avante garde for avante garde’s sake. It wreaks of highly calculated and pretentious edginess.
I hated, and have yet to make it past the first twenty minutes of, Pirates of the Caribbean and Moulin Rouge for the same reasons. Come to think of it, Beetlejuice gave me that same feeling.
I don’t expect much more from the gals on big screen.
I hear ya on the Moulin Rouge front….and I’ve never understood what was so wonderful about that movie. It only irritated the hell out of me.

The whole SitC thing eludes me, and the wardrobes are even more bemusing. I guess women and many gay dudes like to fantasize about dressing like colorblind cretins, screwing, shopping, and having lunch all day. Most “girl” shows are whack like that, in fact. I much prefer Kath and Kate or The L Word.
And YES, the “playful wardrobe” angle is tired and should stop. It was novel for Priscilla and a handful of other movies, but that’s about it.
