We’ll take a brief intermission (and by “brief,â€? I mean extended) from the Britney Spears Meltdown Watch to report on the troubles of the comparatively sane homewrecker Angelina Jolie and her trophy husband, Brad Pitt. Word is the two are seeking counseling for some increasingly difficult problems in their probably-not-a-marriage. Stories have been circulating about Angelina’s drastic weight loss, associated with depression she’s fallen into since her mother’s death from cancer at the beginning of the year. Now, however, the two seem to be grappling with some more profound long-term issues. According to the article:

This year is crux time. They have to reach a decision on what they expect from each other –and fast. Angelina has to realize Brad needs stability and Brad has to come to terms with her driving ambition as a world ambassador.

Or, to put it another way: Even though Angelina no longer seems like a prime candidate for electroshock, the prospect of a normal, everyday life with this woman simply isn’t in the cards. Still, the two seem to be taking their commitment seriously, and they’re well aware of the impact their decisions will have on their children. Quoting the article again, “The stakes are much higher than they were when they were childless.� Hard to believe these two are coming off as models of grown-up responsibility. But compared to some of the examples of won’t-grow-up irresponsibility cluttering up the media right now, they are.
