It’s too soon to say whether French president Nicolas Sarkozy will succeed in his efforts to reform his country’s economy and its entrenched bureaucracy, but being president has done wonders for his dating life. Sarkozy officially divorced his wife Cécilia after 11 years of marriage last October, five months after he took office. Since then he’s been linked romantically with newswoman Laurence Ferrari (a rumor Ferrari heatedly denies) and most recently with model-turned-singer Carla Bruni. Sarkozy took Bruni to Euro Disneyland on Saturday, shooting down that old stereotype about romantic Frenchmen. They didn’t try to hide from the press, and supposedly Bruni has privately confirmed that they’re an item.

Hmm. Carla Bruni is a drop-dead gorgeous femme who’s been described as a “maneater” and linked with everyone from Mick Jagger to Kevin Costner. Also, she’s four inches taller than Sarkozy and voted Socialist in the last election. Sarkozy, on the other hand, is a smart, competent guy in his fifties who looks like a Gallic Richard Nixon. I guess it’s true that power really is the greatest aphrodisiac.
