Toto, We’re Not In Oz Anymore

By Agent Bedhead in Boobies, Film, Scarlett Johansson

The fellow who created this controversial line of toys . . .

Twisted Oz

. . . will soon be collaborating on a “revisionist take” of Wizard of Oz.

The idea comes from Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and was expanded on and pitched by Josh Olson, who adapted A History of Violence. McFarlane is also the guy behind the “Twisted Land of Oz” figurine series, featuring Dorothy barely-clothed and awkwardly bound while a creepy Munchkin snarls.

Oddly enough, although the top secret plot will likely be over-sexualized as hell, the filmmakers are reportedly aiming for a PG rating from the MPAA. This sounds like a job for Scarlett Johannson. Cinematical has the details.

Note the ‘choking hazard’ warning at the bottom left. You know, just in case someone has eyes on purchasing this ‘toy’ for a three year old.

Don’t tell me, let me guess:

After years of warfare, the sorceress Ostehexe has finally subdued the slavering hordes of Munchkiku, and confined their terror to a small section of blighted land. But the evil dwarves pray to their malign gods, who deliver Dorotheakake — a powerful spirit who appears out of a kamikaze and crushes Ostehexe.

This leaves her sister, Westhexe, the only one standing between the beautiful land of Oz and the Dark Army of Munchkiku. Now, Dorotheakake, along with her hellhound Totoessum and their allies — the mechanical Roboto, the snarling Beast, and the (um, gimme a minute) hideous enchanted Devil Doll — march down the Gold Road to destroy Westhexe as well. Will she and her Lesser Angels be able to withstand them?

Oooh, I like the kamikaze idea.

I loved the Oz books as the kid, and this has me wishing that I could meet Todd McFarlane just so I could have the privilege of punching his teeth down his throat. It would serve this weenie right if someone turned his Spawn franchise into a sweet, upbeat series suitable for preschoolers, with a moral at the end of every episode. And with all the parts played by muppets.

I hate McFarlane with a hatred and passion that I’ve never been able to fully explain. I remember seeing him for the first time, and thinking to myself, “God does have a sense of humor. Watch this idiot become a famous artist, and I’ll never get out of internship.”

Long story short, God does not have a sense of humor, He just likes tormenting me…or something…

Sick.. There is nothing tasteful or kept in respect by artists anymore.

Thank the good lord that Judy Garland isn’t alive to see this.

As if “Wicked” and “Muppets Wizard of Oz” weren’t bad enough.
