In my youth, I was never a big fan of Van Halen (seen here back in the Carter Administration). They seemed like a more bubble-gummy version of, I don’t know, Quiet Riot or something (although the video of “Hot for Teacher” definitely had its moments). And the news that the old gang was getting back together for a reunion tour sounded not so much intriguing as pathetic. But Van Halen has shown they’re willing to take their old tunes in directions no one ever, ever thought they could go. For instance, check out this video of a recent performance in Greensborough, North Carolina, where the band shows they’re not afraid to find out what happens when you play the synth track at 48K instead of 44.1K, creating a dissonance that nobody this side of Harry Partch could resolve? My interest in seeing this act on stage is piqued, I tell you. Luckily, tickets are still available.

I know these kinds of comments aren’t always welcomed, but the city is spelled Greensboro. I was born there, so I thought I should be the one to say something.
Otherwise, I agree with everything!
[...] in other news, I am sad to tell you that Van Halen’s comeback tour might not be as great as we once thought. This entry was posted on Sunday, October 21st, 2007 at 4:48 pm and is [...]
I always liked Van Halen. The problem is, if I had to pick a word that summed up the appeal of the band back in the day, the word would be “energy”.
They’re what, in their 50s now?
No problem, BLA. I visited a friend in Greensboro once. Very pleasant place, that deserves its correct spelling.
