David Copperfield, the magician who made his reputation by causing the mysterious disappearance of things like an elephant, an airplane, the Statue of Liberty, and Claudia Schiffer’s taste in men, has finally met something he can’t make go away. Today FBI agents in Las Vegas raided the warehouse where Copperfield stores his props (among other things, evidently) and seized a digital camera, a computer hard drive, and nearly $2 million in cash. The items appear to have been seized as evidence in a case involving a Seattle woman who claims Copperfield raped her while she was on vacation in the Bahamas.

It’s much too soon to comment on the merits of the charge, although Copperfield’s eyebrows are sinister enough to seal his fate if this case ever reaches a jury. However, if the allegations involve hypnosis or other mind control techniques, it’s safe to predict you’ll be reading more about it here.
