Drag queen Verka Serduchka, the Ukrainian Cinderella & self-proclaimed peace goddess, has stormed her way onto the British Top 40! After playing second fiddle at Eurovision to some Serbian street trash, Verka’s Dancing Lasha Tumbai is burning up the dance floors in Europe (and went Top 10 in Sweden).
Verka, a garish, pushy, drunken middle-aged matron always accompanied by her doddering mother, is sometimes said to be the alter ego of comic Andriy Danylko. Her triumph at Eurovision was protested by humorless Ukrainian party poopers who called her a grotesque caricature of a stupid Ukrainian villager.
