Well, I certainly didn’t anticipate immediately launch into any talk related to The Godfather this morning, but I received an interesting email message late last night:
Any thoughts on Senator Obama’s admission on CBS News tonight that “The Godfather” and “The Godfather Part II” are his favorite movies?
Especially after he did a halfway decent Brando impression?
Your faithful reader,
Anil
Hmmm. You people know how I get all squeamish about political discussion around here, but it actually doesn’t surprise me too much that Barack Obama is a Godfather sort of dude. What does amuse me is that Obama shares his favourite film(s) with a few other notable Godfather aficionados, former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani and the late Saddam Hussein, that latter of whom, presumably, sleeps with the fishes. Another politico who shares their opinion is the dude formerly known as “the funniest man in Congress,” current MPAA Chairman Dan Glickman.
It’s difficult to draw any sort of conclusion from the whole Godfather correlation. However, I will say that, for what it’s worth, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush seem a lot more like Goodfellas sorts of guys. Also, Obama really does give a pretty decent impression of Marlon Brando’s Don Vito Corleone. Check it out below:
