What Is Old Is Fabulously Bad Again

By Bedhead in Male Whores, Music, Right Said Fred

This must be the season for reunions that are designed to lure in the nostalgic concertgoer. Already, Van Halen, Wham!, and The Police are tapping upon the clogged nozzles of our Rave hairspray bottles, and now another group has decided that’s what good for the legitimate musicians is okay for the one-hit single to persist into oblivion.

Right Said Fred will re-release “I’m Too Sexy” – their only mainstream single – on April 2. A substantially complete version of the original video can be found here. The full video was recently removed from YouTube by those Viacom fuckheads.

Is the guitar player also the lead singer from Loverboy? I had completely forgetten about the atrociousness that was his unruly mop.

Mr. Atoz

They’re too sexy for that shirt I was wearing back in 1990. And these days, that shirt is looking pretty damn ratty.

None of these guys look like Mike Somethingoranother from Loverboy. I saw him on ‘Where are They Now’ and he was a pretty rotund guy.

It’s obvious to me why the likes of Van Halen and Wham are touring again. There is a huge void of music that most over the age of 30 will listen to. I don’t go to much other than Jimmy Buffett concerts anymore but I’m hoping that VH comes to Houston. I never cared for them with Hagar even though I liked him as a solo act. I was in the crowd (me and my 3 friends saw ourselves anyway) of one of his videos on MTV back when MTV played videos. But VH with Dave was one of the best shows in rock. Every guy in high school had the VH logo drawn onto at least one notebook.

I also read that Michael Anthony has been replaced with 15 year old Wolfgang Van Halen. I always thought Anthony was smart enough to not go against the brothers and wind up like Roth.

Bring back the 80s! Along with my youth but leave my knowledge from 2007 in tact.

I think Michael Anthony decided he was too old to tour again, and while I was slightly skeptical of Wolfgang joining the tour at age fifteen, I think he’ll be fine.

He’s Eddie’s son and has talent, and besides, playing bass for Van Halen cannot possibly be as demanding as playing bass for, say, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Right Said Fred? Good lord, that guy couldn’t even sing, just croak like a frog (I mean a real frog, not like singing frogs Michigan J. or Kermit).

Viacom are indeed fuckheads. They shall live to rue their decision.

Van Halen without Michael Anthony is like the London Symphony without a banjo. It just won’t be the same. Regardless of the bloodline, I’ll have hard time taking a 15 year old playing the bass line to Runnin’ With the Devil seriously. It may not have the complex bass lines of something by BB King but I think it should take more than being the son of Eddie Van Halen to play for one of the biggest rock bands of all time. They’re going to make a fortune off of this tour if the egos can stay in check so I think they owe the fans who will probably pay close to $100 per ticket the best bass player they can get. If they come to Houston, I’ll be reading the reviews first to make sure I’m not paying to go see the Partridge Family with Danny playing bass.

I don’t buy Anthony’s too old to tour argument – mainly because he’s touring with, of all people, Sammy Hagar. I think they’re billing themselves as The Other Half. My guess is that when he sat around for 10+ years waiting for the brothers to stop bickering with Roth, he saw a chance to make some money with Hagar. The brothers don’t like Hagar anymore and they think that Anthony is siding with the enemy.

For all of the money the band has made, they could have made much more.
