Nicole Kidman has had trouble before with the British press and their light-hearted approach to factual accuracy. So she couldn’t have been surprised when the Daily Telegraph reported that on the promotional tour for The Golden Compass she was seen dabbing herself with Jo Malone’s White Jasmine and Mint, “her favourite perfume.” No big deal, right? Except that four years ago Kidman signed a multimillion-dollar contract to promote Chanel No. 5, decidedly not a Jo Malone fragrance. Nicole promptly sprang into action and slapped the Telegraph with a hefty libel suit, which has led the Telegraph to publish a retraction, an apology, and an admission that ”the source of the article had invented the story.” Not to mention a generous but undisclosed cash settlement, which Nicole is donating to the UN Development Fund for Women.
Kudos to Nicole for showing the kind of steely determination it takes to get a retraction from the British press, or to escape from a marriage to Tom Cruise. Meanwhile, stories here or elsewhere that credit the Sun, the Telegraph, or similar UK papers should probably be taken with a large grain of salt. Possibly even a near-fatal dose.

I know lots of people like to rip on Nicole Kidman, but I think she’s sexy as hell and a pretty good actress.
No argument here, jvon. She also tends not to make a fool of herself in public, so the widespread Nicole hatred seems a little mysterious.
The Telegraph doesn’t have much in common with the Sun. It’s fairly unusual for them to publish such a dodgy story.
Still, it has gone downill since it was taken over by the Barclay Brothers.
This pic reminded me of the mirror trick where you see only one side of your face duplicated. Each side creates a completely different face when you catch the reflection.
She’s at least ten years older on the right side of the pic. Uneven botox, no doubt.
Of course, she’s absolutely gorgeous and so, at her age, height, weight, skin tone, skill, success, and all else that she has going for her, to be so insecure as to pump that sh-t into her body is just pathetic.
